With 60 to 100 conference events every year, Panama’s popularity as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) destination has been growing year-on-year since 2012. That’s according to statistics provided by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
But that’s hardly surprising when you consider the architecture, history, and the stunning Oceanside location of the country’s capital city. But there’s much more to Panama than meets the eye if you’re considering on holding an MICE event here. The economy is flourishing, and there has been significant investment into the infrastructure and amenities required, which is why the country is now being heralded as a successful event destination.

You can see an example of that investment in the newly built Amador convention centre with 81,000 sq. m, not far from the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. This $193 million architecturally stunning centre is almost complete and will soon host its first convention – the world-famous Panama-Pacific International Exhibition. In the meantime, there is also the Megapolis Convention Centre in Panama City. But investment hasn’t been confined to the capital. There are plans to build two further convention centres in Chiriqui Province and Coclé.
Both leisure and business visitor number are rising rapidly, and they’re not coming just to see the historic Panama Canal. The hotel industry is booming, as more people discover that all of Panama is a playground for adventure.
